June 3, 2000: Weeki Wachee, Florida

A A Stress and Rescue Weekend dive
"Weeki Wachee"
--------------------------------------------------

Most of my day was spent listening to Scott lecture, and taking dive exams ... which in a sense involved little diving!
Diving in the land of the Mermaids:
  • Directions from Tampa: Weeki Wachee is just south of the intersection of State Road 19 and State Road 50. Weeki Wachee is technically it's own city, but I've seen it referred to as part of Brooksville, as well as part of Spring Hill.
  • Conditions on the day of my visit: Sunny, a little warm.

  • Personal Notes: Saturday saw much lecturing, surface work (towing of fatigued, panicked, or unconscious divers), and three dives: two Stress and Rescue, and one mostly Night (with a little Stress and Rescue thrown in). I had assembled my gear to be as minimal as possible, and during one of the S&R dives and the Night dive (that had some S&R theory thrown in), we saw several freshwater flounder, which I had not gotten pictures of yet (I have so many photos of bream it's pitiful). The night dive was fun for Scott and I both, because we had the entire spring to ourselves. However, we were also there until after 10pm and we both slept well that evening.
