A Stress and Rescue WeekendJune 3, 2000 through June 4, 2000
|
A trip only in that I spent two days in a row in the same place, for similar purposes both days. A Stress and Rescue specialty course is one of the most important courses you can take for diving. It teaches you how to deal with stress in yourself, and stress in other divers. Certain certification levels cannot be reached without this specialty ... but more important than that, it makes you a safer diver ... and a more aware diver. If you take no other specialty, take Stress and Rescue. During this weekend I also took "Night/Limited Visibility" and "Navigation" courses. I was sore for a good two or three days after these dives/tests/exams. Part of the Stress and Rescue exams involves towing an individual to safety. I am by far not the strongest nor the most fit individual I know ... and I paid for it. I scored 100's on all of my written exams (though SSI might have different opinions on one "Night" question, as both Scott and I agreed that two lights for two divers is not marginal, but unsafe, and one "Navigation" question, as Scott and I both agreed that side-scan compasses were best) and did fairly well on my Stress and Rescue dives, really good on my Night dive, and so-so on my Navigation (Scott said I passed but he wanted to see me practice Navigation whenever I got in the water). On To The Dives
