May 30, 2004: Gulf Shores, Alabama

A Memorial Day Weekend 2004 dive
"Three Sisters" - "Romar Barge" - "Wallace Liberty Ship"
--------------------------------------------------

A new type of site for me this day ...
Diving in the Gulf of Mexico off of Gulf Shores:
  • Directions from Tampa: I was staying in Pensacola; but I-75 North, and then I-10 West should get you close enough.
  • Conditions on the day of my visit: A little cloudy, and some more rain at first.

  • Personal Notes: Three Sisters is actually a set of oil rigs. Still in use, too. Very wierd water action - no real thermocline but the water temp would shift from 68 F to 80 F in spots.

Romar Barge was an interesting site with some neat fish life, including a couple of Bat Fish.

The Wallace Liberty Ship is covered with severed anchors. A big wreck, it's a popular dive and fishing site, but anchors get hung up on it constantly. You'll see quite a few down there.

Dive data for dives on this day:

261 Romar Barge 93 feet 34 min. 68 F
262 Wallace Liberty Ship 96 feet 36 min. 70 F
