My Little Keys Trip 2006June 22, 2006 through June 26, 2006
|
This was just a short weekend in the Keys, diving with Conch Republic Divers and staying at Ocean Pointe. Both are in Tavernier, Florida (which is mostly on Key Largo). Brenda at Conch Republic really arranged the room - all I had to do was show up. Getting There Getting there from Tampa this time around was easy, but did run about $6.00 in tolls. I took I75 South to the Turnpike, and eventually the Turnpike merges with US-1. After that, it depends on where in the Keys you're going. Tampa to Tavernier is going to run about five to six hours by car. You'll hit tolls at Alligator Alley (part of I75) and a couple of times on the Turnpike. If you're running low on gas after the Alley, get gas right away - it can be difficult to find a station right off of the Turnpike, and there's a chance you'll be paying another quarter or two in tolls. Other Stuff A few people went along with me. Diving wise, for one morning trip it was my Sister; for a full day and a morning trip my buddies John and Chuck showed up. My parents also came down to the Keys with me - but they don't dive. The suite at Ocean Pointe (basically, a 2 bedroom apartment) had plenty of room - supposedly, we could have fit a couple more people in it. For the three days where I was actually diving, weather was mostly good - except on the last day ... On To The Dives
